Redundant cabling in Data Centres and Communication Rooms can be an obstruction, a hazard and in some cases dangerous. New Data Centres and Comms Rooms are usually designed with purpose build containment to support a maximum capacity for a given number of Racks. Raised floors are the perfect environment to just hide what people have found to be obsolete, this then becomes an issue for further cabling, air coiling and the rise in energy costs.

The legacy of years of cabling creates headaches for IT and Data Centre managers, also from a network performance and safety point. Over the past 10 years, the accumulation of miles and miles of cabling left in Racks and under floors has become a major concern. Not only for the increase in energy costs, but also for concerns for a source for fueling fire, smoke and sub lethal toxic fumes that can incapacitate. In addition, PVC jackets tend to break down over time. This decomposition process can be accelerated by exposure to increased temperatures and humidity.

Consultants and Designers now look to future proof their installations, specifying the manufacturers that give them the confidence in their products.
